"As with Andrew Wyeth's work, this painting has an edge to it. A mystery behind the image. Even some danger. This is a story that you get a glimpse of, but not the whole story. Showing Diana's back lets you see the communication between her and Hechizo, and lets you look into her horse's eyes, as she is doing. She is vulnerable in two senses of the word, a slight woman, shoulder bared, vulnerable in the presence of the large horse, but vulnerable as well in the relationship she has with her horse. And I like the way Lee has tied them together visually as well, not just by including the shoulder tattoo, but with the treatment of his wild mane and her wild hair. I am glad to know some of the story behind the painting, but even without that background,  it can be seen as a very personal portrait of a friend, and her relationship with her horse. The wild hair and the beautiful way it is rendered it is particularly nice. Andrew Wyeth would have liked that."
